Coastal Palliative Care

Supportive care, Palliative care and Hospice services for Coastal

The North Shore Hospice is the first free standing Hospice for the North Shore. Owned and operated by Vancouver Coastal Health, the Hospice was built and furnished completely by the generous support of the community.

Over $8.5 million was raised by Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, North Shore Hospice Society, Family Services of the North Shore and Vancouver Coastal Health to build the Hospice, located at 319 East 14th Street in North Vancouver, BC, which officially opened it’s doors November 1st 2010.

Donations continue to enhance both the Hospice and the care residents receive. Click here for information regarding donations and recognition.

The Hospice offers a home-like setting for those who require end-of-life care. Set in beautiful gardens, the Hospice has 15 large, en suite rooms with big windows built low to the ground to ensure that people lying in bed can see out of them. Rooms have been designed with angled walls, a touch that makes them feel less institutional.

All areas have internet, cable and telephones. There are pull out sleeper couches for families who would like to stay overnight and a visitor shower and personal laundry facilities for their use.

We encourage children and pets to visit, and a offer a child friendly TV room packed with electronic games, books and toys to keep young children occupied.

A Spa for nailcare, hair dressing and foot massage, and a separate Hydro-therapy tub, are available for residents, family members and external providers, who are offering services to the patients, free of charge

The focal point of the hospice is a great room with cozy fireside seating, high ceilings and light flooding in through oversized windows.

Meals are prepared and cooked on site by a chef, and visitors are encouraged to dine with the patients.

We offer an holistic, flexible and individualised approach to patient care. Our values reflect autonomy, respect and dignity for all.

Staff and Volunteers work in complimentary ways to help alleviate the physical, emotional and spiritual suffering of patients and their families.

Through the provision of individual and family support, counseling, support groups, compassionate care and interactions, we proactively assist patients, and their families, prepare for death and live with grief and loss.

We strive to foster and live by our core values in every interaction with each other and with our patients and their families.
